I first met Stephanie five years ago when our oldest kids started kindergarten together. Right away I enjoyed her bubbly personality, infectious laugh and creative spirit! Stephanie is a mom, artist and owner of Leelanau Pottery Company. Her beautiful ceramics are inspired by the incredible beauty that surrounds us in northern Michigan! She creates hand built ceramic plates and platters, mugs and more in a unique bubble glaze inspired by the shores of Lake Michigan. We are thrilled that she will be leading our February workshop and teaching us how to make a gorgeous hanging ceramic planter!
What is it about northern Michigan that brings you creative inspiration?
Our beautiful beaches! My work is directly inspired by walking along the shores searching for rocks, beach glass and other treasures.
How did you get interested/started in your creative field?
I began taking classes in clay after stepping away from it for many years. I fell hard back in love with the hand building process with pottery. I got back into it as my youngest was going to preschool.
What’s your creative routine? How often are you making?
Depending upon the season, I’m working on wholesale orders or art and craft show stock. It’s rare I get to make just for fun.
What’s the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome in your creative journey?
I started this journey as a way to find myself agsin after stepping out of my career in marketing and publishing to be a mother and run a family business. During this time I’ve become a single parent, this outlet has become a second career path of sorts. I’m excited for the journey.
