The Return of an Old Friend
The arrival of Fall this year has felt like the return of a good friend I haven’t seen in a while. Lately, even though life has been crazy and hectic, I’ve been trying to embrace the beautiful colors, scent of goodies baking in the oven, hikes with friends, the feel of cozy sweaters and diving into creative projects that got put aside during the warm summer months.
During this season of familiar comforts, I have also found myself yearning for a personal transformation. To finally gather the courage to pursue my love of painting. Which this sounds silly even as I type it, but for some reason found so hard to start, the fear of failure always looming large. But finally I took the plunge and did it and have made it a goal to finish at least one painting a week. I’m not sure where this road will lead, and for now that is okay, but today I just feel grateful for having started.
The painting above is a recent painting that I just finished titled “The Return of an Old Friend.” I don’t know if you’ve felt the same about Fall but the sight of gourds and pumpkins stacked up at houses all around town 🎃 has made my heart smile for the tiny return of normalcy. The simple joy of seeing their beautiful shapes and bright colors around our community inspired me and I felt compelled to paint them. I hope you enjoy it, and find joy in the simple beauties of the season.
