Heads Held High

Painting by Heather Harrington | Titled: Heads Held High | Acrylic on Cradled Wood Board 14” x 11” 1.5” depth

The inspiration behind the painting, the lovely zinnias scene on a morning walk to school with my girls in Traverse City, Michigan.

Yesterday I finished a new painting.

It was a beast to work through, but it reminded me of an important lesson.

Not to quit when the going gets tough.

I felt lots of self-doubts creep in while I worked, calling me to scrap it altogether.

I more than once questioned my decision to go down this new path as an artist.

I kept at it.

I continued working and working.

Layer after layer of paint and detail.

Much like a kaleidoscope, the colorful paint strokes eventually moved and melded together, forming the vision I had in my mind.

My new painting is titled "Heads Held High."

I'm happy that I didn't quit and give in.

The slog between the beginning and the end is the hardest part but also the most rewarding.

My latest painting titled “Heads Held High” was first inspired by the morning walk with my daughters to school. We took a different route and came upon a beautiful patch of Zinnias. I hope you enjoy it and that it brings some color to your day!
