Rising Wave
rising wave
By: Heather Harrington
It starts small, like a bubble in the foam that washes onto the shoreline.
This tiny ripple of movement, in otherwise calm waters.
At first, it is easy to ignore.
It comes and goes like a leaf blowing in the wind.
Until the tiny ripple turns into a swell.
A swell that causes me to pause and take notice.
The more I notice it, the more it builds.
Maybe the wind will die down, I think, and the swell will pass.
Soon, however, the swell becomes twice its size, forming a wave.
As the wave begins to crests, a golden sparkle casts across its waters.
I see colors of every shade reflecting in its light.
Fluid, fierce, and powerful.
Even if this wave soon crashes.
I know it will rise again.
