Stepping into the Light

Stepping into the Light

***For years I lived a shadow life.

I didn't even realize I had lived this way for the longest time.

I first learned about living a shadow life from reading Steven Pressfield's  Turning Pro: Tap Your Inner Power and Create Your Life's Work.

Pressfield's premise is that we all have significant work to do — work that the world needs—but most of us settle for doing work that is similar to one's true calling rather than the actual work itself.

We stay in our comfort zone vs. risking the pain of stepping out to pursue more meaningful work.

Eventually, I stepped out of my own shadow.

It has been scary and complicated but also immensely challenging and satisfying.

After years of admiring the artists who would exhibit their work in ArtPrize, an international art competition in Grand Rapids, I finally took the plunge this year.

I'm honored to have my painting above "Rolling with the Punches" in this year's ArtPrize show alongside many inspiring artists.

If you, too, find yourself in your own shadow. Perhaps it is time to consider stepping into the light.
