As we head into the holidays, during a year in which many traditions and gatherings have been put on pause, it’s easy to fixate on what we’re missing. At times like these, it’s important to find the abundance—kindness, good and happiness—wherever it may lie. It’s there. You just have to look for it.

As I go throughout my day, instead of thinking about what is gone, I try to notice the good. The festive holiday decorations brighten my spirit. In particular, I’m drawn to the beautiful simplicity of the wreaths that adorn many homes. Each one similar, yet distinctly different. Each one a welcome sign.

The wreath, especially in this time of social distancing, is a symbol of the hope the new year will bring—the ability to gather in our homes and enjoy each other’s company once again.

I created the painting above as part of my Painting the Season series it is titled “A Welcome Sign” and was inspired by the beautiful wreaths in my community. I hope your holidays are filled with joy and that you look for the small signs of goodness in your days.
