New Products and Upcoming Events: North Country Wraps for Women, A Children’s Book, and Lots of Life and Whim for the Holidays
When we were set up with our pop-up shop and products at the Old Time Harvest Day in Traverse City last month, our North Country Capes for girls garnered lots of interest and quite a few sales. With summer turning to fall, it was a perfect opportunity to pick up a new outerwear accessory for adventurous and creative young girls.
As parents perused the racks of capes, we kept hearing the same refrain from a number of women: “I wish you made these for adults!”
Well, you spoke and we listened. Today we’re thrilled to be announcing the arrival of the newest product to our Shop – North Country Wraps in two different styles for women! The women’s wraps are inspired by the girls’ capes, but feature a more sophisticated and modern form and function. We’re launching the wraps in two styles, a red and navy buffalo check and grey plaid. We’ll soon – within the next couple of weeks – be releasing a third style featuring a black and white buffalo check fabric and modern jacquard ribbon trim.
Our North Country Wraps, like our capes, are made of cozy polar fleece. The buffalo check includes a jacquard ribbon trim and a ruffle edge, and the grey has a jacquard ribbon trim and minky faux fur edge. With convenient and comfortable arm holes that don’t restrict movement, they’re also highly functional for busy women on the go. I love to wear mine as both a scarf and as a wrap depending on the occasion!
I don’t know about you, but this time of year, I’m always looking for another layer to throw on. That’s why I designed a wrap that I love – I hope you do too!
Every product that we design and produce is a team effort, and our wraps are no exception. We owe a big debt of gratitude to Jay’s mom, Rita, who is a talented seamstress and was integral to our ability to get these to market as quickly, and at such a high level of quality, as we did! Check out our two styles of North Country Wraps here and here.
Introducing The Magical Tale of the Fairy Trails (Coming Very Soon!)
Jay and I have always had it on our “bucket list” to produce a children’s picture book together. Given that he’s a writer, and I’m a designer, it seemed like a natural fit. Over the years we’ve come to find, however, that it’s not as easy as it might seem.
We became really inspired several years ago to make it happen when my friend Sherri Rinker (who also happens to be the first design client I ever had as a freelancer in Chicago over ten years ago) wrote the mammoth New York Times bestseller Good Night, Good Night, Construction Site. Sherri has always been someone that I respect and look up to for her great design work and business savvy. Not to mention that she is super kind and generous! I thought: If Sherri can do it, so can I. Again, easier said than done. We always had lots of ideas for books, but none that nagged at us to the point where we had to do it.
That all changed when we created the Fairy Trails. Seeing how inspired kids are on the Fairy Trails gave us all of the nagging inspiration we needed to turn our children’s book dream into a reality.
By the end of this month, our new book, The Magical Tale of the Fairy Trails, will be available on Amazon and in our Shop. We’re so excited for you to see it!
The story centers around the fact that, despite the arrival of spring, Traverse City’s flowers do not rise. There is plenty of sun and rain, but an essential ingredient is missing: pixie dust spread by fairies is needed for flowers to bloom bright! It’s a problem that grownups can’t seem to solve, but kids get together to save the day. What do they do? Well, you’ll have to read the story to find out!
